Calculate Your Due Date Now! →Understanding Your Due Date
Your estimated date of delivery (EDD), also known as your due date, is the approximate date when you can expect to give birth. It's a helpful milestone for planning and preparing for your baby's arrival.
Keep in mind that your due date is just an estimate. Only a small percentage of babies are born exactly on their due date. Most babies arrive within a window of a couple weeks before or after the EDD.
How to Calculate Your Due Date
Our Pregnancy Calculator & Ovulation Estimator offers several methods to estimate your due date:
- Last Menstrual Period (LMP): This is the most common method. It calculates your due date by adding 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period. For more information about calculating using your last period, navigate to safe days and your cycle and 28-day-cycle ovulation.
- Conception Date: If you know the exact date of conception, you can add 266 days (38 weeks) to that date. This method can be useful if you were tracking ovulation or used fertility treatments.
- IVF Transfer Date: If you conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF), your due date can be accurately calculated from the embryo transfer date. The calculation depends on whether it was a 3-day or 5-day transfer. Navigate to IVF-Ovulation Calculators if you're trying to concieve.
Factors Affecting Your Due Date
Several factors can influence the actual date of delivery:
- Cycle Length: Women with cycles longer or shorter than the average 28 days may have a slightly different EDD. Our tool allows you to adjust for cycle length.
- Ultrasound Measurements: During your first trimester ultrasound, your healthcare provider will measure the baby's size, which can provide a more accurate estimate of gestational age and adjust your due date if needed.
- Irregular Periods: If you experience irregular periods, it may be harder to pinpoint your exact date of conception, and an early ultrasound becomes even more important for accurate dating.
